January 22

Breakfast was late today because the boys slept in for no apparent reason.

9:30 am: whole wheat oatmeal chocolate chip pancakes made with 1/2 c heavy cream and 1/2 c whole milk. I also added 1T vegetable oil. Served with 1T butter melted on top, syrup and whipped cream. He ate a few bites. I bolused him with 6 oz of formula over the next hour. He cried and protested and shoved food in his mouth each time I warned that he would be bolused (or when he saw me preparing the formula). The meal was more disjointed that usual because Andrew, after excusing himself to go potty, found Brigham's wedding ring on the sink counter and dropped it into the toilet in the course of an "experiment" too complicated for me to understand.

My feeling about the matter is that I hate surrenduring to his refusal to eat by force-feeding him his complete meal. I suspect that he will not eat lunch now because he will not be hungry at all. We went through a period when he saw a bolusing as a perfectly acceptable method for eating and would say, when he saw me approaching with the syringe, "feed me." I feel like it is somewhat of a step back in the long run to feed him this way rather than get him to feed himself, but on the other hand the child is not gaining weight appropriately and he needs to just gain.

LUNCH:
corn tortillas deep fried in olive oil and filled with cheese and black beans. Ate a few bites under coercion and bribery. Spit out a little bit, too. Stayed in his own little seat the whole meal. Also ate some cashews, just a few. Bolused over the next hour with 6 oz. formula.
